Ski tour over Flims

Grown through the weather forecast, we start on 9.2.14 in Flims ski tour direction Glarus Alpine ridge.

As an ideal target of course Piz Segnas / Piz Sardona as a plan, it will most likely be nothing because of the tricky drift snow situation in the Surenjoch. But first start very comfortable, so are enough altitude to get there ... At 07:00 clock it starts in the village (1060m), we take the track after Foppa, The fog still hangs low, but with every minute he dodges upwards. Foppa can not be driven down the valley, so little snow lies here. Thanks to the 5 cm of fresh snow from the night, everything still looks like in the winter wonderland, especially the forest.

It goes on to the lift station Startgels (1588m), where the first skiers arrive. The track looks really great, thin new snow pad on groomed surface. Only shortly under the Segnashütte, the fog breaks open and presents the beautiful winter panorama both northward on the Tschingelhörner and Atlas and southward into the Graubünden Alps. On the Segnashütte (2102m) the terrace is being floated. We take a little break, watch the Slopestyle Olympics competitions for five minutes, and I'll dry my skimmer just because the glue stops feeling so good. From here we follow the bars of the variant descent of Cassons, past the climbing / Boulderfelsen direction P.2323. If there were more snowdrifts, you have to be careful, that you do not run too far from your back. From P.2323 Leaving the ski area completely and running first for half an eternity on the perfectly flat upper Segnasboden in the beautiful high valley between Piz Segnas and Piz Dolf. The weather is now blue and cloudy in change. The sun is always welcome when the wind is freezing cold, the clouds then five minutes later, when it has become quite warm.

The snow is a dream, on firm base so 10 to 20 cm of loose snow, but at the top of the peaks and ridges, but also slowly begins to pull huge snow. Let's see how far the wind drives us ... The rise behind the Segnasboden is then very welcome, after all, you have to bring everything down again, and if possible, driving. Over shallow humps and wide channels one runs against the rest of the Segnasgletschers, you are pleased about the icy face of Piz Segnas, but the conditions allow absolutely no climb to the Surenjoch. In the west wind today collect at the exit of the yoke true snowdrift masses, from which one should beware. From 2600m one pushes the wind up to the SardonapassNow it's not far to Piz Dolf, the alternative for today.

The clock shows 15:00 clock, actually quite late. The wind sets the rhythm: a step forward, a slide back. Take another break, eat a chocolate and let's go. But not far, off 2850m does not allow the wind to stand on its own legs, and the clouds do not become brighter. We definitely think it's better to turn around now. A view of the weather station Crap Masegn in the ski resort (2480m) shows in retrospect at the time stupidly quite a peak in the wind speed, around 60 km / h, the gusts 80 km / h, so it has also felt. But wait forever for good weather is nothing, so take off without flying away. The hands freeze, but without photos, nothing works these days. The descent is changeable, a few beautiful little powder snow women, of course, wind-pressed snow, and some sliding points. The Segnasboden is more suitable for cross-country skiing.

Back to P.2323 arrived, we enjoy the last rays of sunshine with more chocolate, good hot tea, and all sorts of more weight. The landscape presents itself beautifully with a few last clouds, the review of Piz Dolf shows a few small snow, the wind has finally returned to a tolerable level. Well, run up again you can move to another time. The departure to Segnashütte is done quickly, with a small sliding distance in between. From there quickly to the slopes and the rather long descent with the last skiers after Flims, Up the slope is still great, down in the flat part it is a bit icy, but that is more likely to be the problem of the people who spend 70 CHF per day for the ski pass.

At 17:00 we arrive at the Legna Bar where it already smells like grass and the music spreads a good mood. Overall, a super nice and long ski tour, with stormy wind and tricky snow, the upper part is not in it, but there is a nice view over the opening Segnasboden direction Graubünden Alps. Of course, less suitable for the madness downhill, because of the longer sliding distances on lower and upper Segnasboden and a few small counter ascents.
